West Coast Got East Coast’s Back During Crisis

In hip-hop culture, the West Coast and the East Coast are long-time rivals. But in these difficult times, the West has been a caring, supportive partner to the hard-hit East.

Thanks to various factors, including early interventions and mitigation, California, Oregon and Washington have accrued more ventilators than they need. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 crisis, while showing signs of flattening out, is still in full effect in hotspots like New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.

As the nation struggles to scrounge up the lifesaving machines for hospitals overrun with Covid-19 patients, Western states have shipped over 1,000 spare ventilators to their besieged neighbors in the East. β€œAll NYC needs is love…From CA,” someone wrote in Magic Marker on a ventilator shipping box, shown in a video posted on Twitter by the governor of California, Gavin Newsom.

The ongoing effort of three West Coast states to come to the aid of more hard-hit parts of the nation has emerged as a powerful gesture. The kind of gesture that might bring this oft-divided country together, as we steer past the most difficult part of the peak, and look to the light at the end of the tunnel.

Make sure you fact-check Covid-19 coverage with some rumour control:
