Vampires vs The Bronx Cast: Netflix Diversity Strategy Works

Major props to Netflix for implementing a diversity strategy that works, as we’ve seen in the Vampires vs The Bronx cast. What do I mean by that? Well, when many mainstream Hollywood studio executives think about doing a Latino show, their main go-to is something like Narcos, or a series where all the maids are Latinas, lead characters are undocumented migrants, or there’s a melodramatic telenovela cast. Well, let me tell you – we’re much more than that, even though stereotypes did land Bobby Soto his breakout role in The Tax Collector.

This is why it’s so exciting to have a show like “Vampires vs The Bronx“. If you are not familiar with the show, the series is about a group of young friends from the Bronx who fight to save their neighborhood from a band of vampires. They could be from any ethnicity, but Netflix chose to cast POC for it – and that’s important – because representation matters. Inclusion matters. The kids are keeping The Bronx safe, while Spiderman Miles Morales ps5 keeps Harlem safe in the new video game.

When I was growing up, these types of cool roles, like in “Buffy; The Vampire Slayer“, were reserved for white people, and left the rest of us out of the picture. Now, by including actors from all backgrounds and colors, Netflix is reaching an amplified audience worldwide. And you can see just how good it is in our Vampires Vs. The Bronx Review. The USA is not the bellybutton of the world anymore – it’s just a piece of the cake, not the whole cake. And they must be doing something right, since Netflix is the number 1 streaming service on the planet – just saying…
