Just moments ago, LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and County Supervisor Kathryn Barger announced a sweeping new preventative measure entitled, “Safer At Home,” at a press conference with other LA city and county officials.
In an unprecedented move for Los Angeles, the ordinance requires all non-essential businesses to discontinue operations that require any workers to be on sight. There should be no gatherings of more than 10 people, and members of the community should refrain from going outside except to shop for food or exercise safely, observing social distance guidelines.
“The only time you should leave your home is for essential activities and needs,” Mayor Eric Garcetti said earlier this evening. This order will take effect today at midnight for most nonessential retail spaces and tomorrow, 3/20 for all remaining businesses. It will remain in place until at least April 19.
You can find a list right here of all public spaces that will remain open during the ordinance.
