If you have already binged all the best Netflix, Amazon and HBO shows, we have some good news. Your quarantine just got a little better thanks to industry veteran Jeff Katzenberg, who launched Quibi on April 6th – a new platform to watch short form content and series of all kinds right on your phone.
The platform caters to a younger audience who prefer to watch content on their phones and who also have a short attention span (all the episodes are under 10 minutes long). The app uses a one of a kind “turnstyle” technology in order to seamlessly switch between portrait and landscape viewing formats. Katzenberg has banked on the success on this – and I mean he’s really banked on it, raising over 1.7 BILLION dollars of funding. The platform already counts with a variety of shows with big names attached to them. Let’s see them:
Survive is in the same vein as “Lost” and based on the novel by Alex Morel. Survive features Sophie Turner and Corey Hawkins as the only two survivors of a plane crash who are forced to trek through a frozen landscape in search of rescue.
Most Dangerous Games starring Liam Hemsworth and Christoph Waltz, tells the story of a terminally ill man (Hemsworth) who agrees to participate in a deadly hunt where he’s the prey in exchange for 24 million dollars that his pregnant wife will receive – that is, if he survives.
And for all you reality TV fans, there are a lot of unscripted options:
Thanks a Million produced by our dear Jenny from The Block is an “emotional and inspiring series featuring grateful public figures who kickstart a chain of kindness by gifting $100,000 to an unsuspecting individual who must pay it forward.”
Chrissy’s Court features author and TV personality Chrissy Teigen, who isn’t a real judge, but she plays one on Quibi as she presides over hilarious small claims cases.
Murder House Flip is an unconventional new home renovation show that takes on the country’s most infamous homes: the ones known for mysterious murders committed behind their walls. Homeowners turn to high-end renovation experts Mikel Welch and Joelle Uzyel as they try to remove stains from the pasts…and hopefully the ghosts too…
Singled Out is hosted by Keke Palmer and Joel Kim Booster. Quibi will reboot the famous MTV dating show for the modern era by linking the main contestant to a pool of singles via social media.
You Ain’t Got These is a show that investigates sneaker culture and all that it entails.
And if you need more content, the good news is that Quibi has 43 other shows. An ad-supported version of Quibi will cost subscribers $4.99 per month, and an ad-free version will run you $7.99 per month. Find more information about Quibi here.
