Actress Naya Rivera’s body has been recovered (pending official identification by the coroner) from Lake Piru after days of scanning the murky lake with advanced sonar equipment.
As we previously reported, Rivera went missing last Wednesday on an outing with her 4 year old son, Josey. Apparently, when authorities arrived at the boat for a welfare check, Josey said that he and his mom went for a swim, but his mom never got back in the boat.
Naya was in the spotlight from an early age, appearing in many national TV commercials and landing the role of Hillary Winston on “The Royal Family” at just four years old. She then rose to fame after landing the role of Santana on the hit Fox series, “Glee” in 2009. Eerily enough, her co-star Corey Monteith died exactly seven years from the day Naya’s body was found, after he succumbed to a concoction of intoxicants which included alcohol and heroin.
Earlier today, fellow co-stars of “Glee” held hands on the shores of Lake Piru along with Rivera’s family in a powerful tribute.
This photo of the cast of #Glee gathering together at Lake Piru today where #NayaRivera’s body was found is incredibly powerful — especially when you consider today is the 7 year anniversary of Cory Monteith’s death. I’m a mess. pic.twitter.com/RhY9hUb78E

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department held a press conference announcing their findings, and said they used FaceTime calls Naya had with family members while on the boat to help narrow down their search radius.
According to a conversation Sheriff Bill Ayub had with her son, Naya boosted him back on the boat following a swim; however, when Josey looked back to find his mom, she was nowhere to be found.
Apparently, the current was very strong on the lake the day they went out. This will be the ninth death since the ’90s by drowning in Lake Piru. Locals are demanding the installation of more signs and safety measures to warn people about the strong currents and debris beneath the treacherous waters.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s department, there are no signs of any foul play or a suicide attempt. This was unfortunately an extremely tragic drowning incident. Our prayers are with Naya’s family, and all those who knew and loved her.
