Jared Loyo is on his way to the Dominican Republic.
Loyo, (16) a pitcher from Veracruz, just signed with the Philadelphia Phillies. His signing is one of the first under the team’s new director of amateur scouting, Brian Barber.
But first he has to test in the team’s facility in Santo Domingo. The first stop for new recruits.
His recruitment was carried out by PROBEIS, or the Office of the Presidency for the Promotion and Development of Baseball in Mexico. An initiative by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to promote the sport, and get players onto professional teams.
In addition to Loyo, the Phillies also signed Pedro Reyes, another Mexican pitcher looking to play in the big leagues.
