Mattel has launched a new Barbie Doll, Catrina style! Get ready to see the sugar skulls, flowers and beautiful dresses on a doll because tradition is getting real and set to compete with mainstream toys.
Through the Barbie Instagram account, Mattel shared a few images that are representative of El Día de los Muertos, honoring the Mexican holiday tradition. However, this is a limited edition.
The Catrina makeup and wardrobe are no strangers to the Barbie Collection this year (hello colors and flowers). The traditional style dresses, the braids, the embroidery con flores de cempasúchil and the beautiful calavera designs on the face — and even the accessories — have Día de los Muertos written all over it.

Barbie celebrates the time-honored tradition of #DiaDeMuertos with a new collectible doll honoring the symbols and rituals of the holiday. From the delicate lace embroidered dress, to the captivating calavera face paint, the #Barbie Día de Muertos doll pays tribute to the customs of families around the world.
“Barbie celebrates a sacred tradition #DiaDeMuertos with a new and limited edition doll that honors the symbols and rituals of the holiday,” wrote Mattel on their instagram post.
We are rooting for cultural representation (finally) but this is not the first time Mattel has stood out with Latinx culture on a doll…
In 2019, Mattel released a limited edition doll for el Día de los Muertos as well. The only difference is that her dress and wardrobe last year was black.
