Latinx artists are constantly at the forefront of artistic innovation, and tattooing is no different. Most people associate Latinx artists with Chicano tattoos (which are dope), but they’re also making some of the most impressive old school, neo-traditional, blackwork, hyperrealism, and countless other styles you’ll see on your Instagram feed. Here’s a short list of some of our favorite Latin artists working today.
BIG SLEEPS
The Pico-Union bred Big Sleeps is one of the OG Chicano tattoo artists whose art became intertwined in the DNA of Southern California street style. His calligraphy is recognizable anywhere, and you can watch our exclusive interview where we got a first-hand look into his practice only on LATV’s Latination. Check it out:
Esther Garcia
Chicago artist Esther Garcia specializes in nature-themed and blackwork tattoos. Her work has a vintage and organic look that she’s cultivated during her 20 years in the industry.
Klown Saravia
Klown is one of the great black and grey artists on the scene. Incredibly detailed portraits and west coast flavor are evident in every piece he makes.
Michelle Santana
Working out of the popular Bang Bang Tattoo in New York City and her own shop in Colombia is the talented Michelle Santana. Her fine line tattoos are in high demand and it’s easy to see why, given the level of detail she creates in such small spaces.
Nikko Hurtado
Nikko Hurtado is world-renowned for his hyperrealistic portraits that are unlike anything else. Born in the San Fernando Valley, he runs Black Anchor Collective in Los Angeles which provides (often famous) clientele with amazing works of art.
