Born in Veracruz, Mexico, Adhara Pérez learned to read at 2 years old, finished elementary school by 5, middle school by 6 and high school by 7. It’s been reported that her IQ is 162, which is 2 points higher than both Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking.
Bullied for being “weird” at a young age, Adhara’s mom knew she was special. After seeing doctors, therapists, specialists and psychologists, finally an IQ test was administered. It was then they realized they were in the presence of a genius! Pérez even wrote a book on the struggles she faced early on with being bullied and her experience being a girl genius with Aspberger’s. She won’t let the haters stop her just like her peer Latino geniuses including Mexican artist Osbelit Garcia, a teenaged biomedical engineer Carlos Santamaria Diaz, and inventor Xochitl Cruz Lopez.
Adhara wants to be an astronaut when she grows up, and has even traveled to Tijuana, Mexico to give a presentation at an event organized by the Institute of Art and Culture (IMAC) on black holes. She has been to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Texas and was invited to study astronomy at the University of Arizona. Last year, this girl also was on the Forbes’ Mexico list of 100 most powerful women. AND SHE’S ONLY 8!
Adhara is now studying at Universidad CNCI, a university in Mexico. She is working on two degrees online, one in industrial engineering in mathematics and one in systems engineering. She’s also currently studying English so that she can attend college in Arizona! Oh, and did I mention that it’s been reported that she’s developing a smart bracelet that will be able to monitor the emotions of differently abled children, anticipating and preventing seizures and other outbursts. She is doing this in hopes that she can prevent others from being misdiagnosed and help change the world, as she says.
This little girl is just amazing to say the least! You go girl! We’re rooting for you! Keep an eye out for her and others such as Gloria Goyo Martinez who shines at the Latin Grammy’s.
