Let’s give it up for the glorious album that brought reggaeton to the mainstream media, and along with it el perreo intenso.
It’s time for a blast from the past, because Daddy Yankee’s third album, “Barrio Fino,” has turned 16!
Barrio Fino was a monster of an album that redefined the Latino Reggaeton scene here in the United States! In collaboration with El Cartel and the Machete Label companies, Barrio Fino skyrocketed to number one on the U.S. Latin charts and gave Daddy Yankee his first Platinum record!
You have to understand, this was the first time a reggaeton album hit the charts at number one. It completely redefined the scope of Latino music. What a moment for our culture, our music, and our flavor.
This was personally exciting because I can’t remember a single party where Gasolina wasn’t playing! And now a whole sweet sixteen is in order.
Here is a list of my personal favorites from that album that keep it banging!
1. Gasolina…for when you need a boost of energy midday…or night.
2. Lo Que Paso, Paso…because like, why wallow in the past.
3. No Me Dejes Solo…I mean I’m down for you, are you down for me?
Speaking of reggaeton trailblazers, read the latest on Bad Bunny and how he continues to redefine culture, just like LATV.
