The end of the sports void may be on the horizon…
On Friday, May 1st, every club in the Premier League gathered via video conference in order to find an amicable path back to live football games.
Just before the league put the season on hiatus, Liverpool had a commanding lead in the standings with 82 points, 25 more than second-place Manchester City – and needed only two more wins to be crowned champions.
Though the team would no doubt enjoy a proper send-off, would it even be worth it if the fans couldn’t enjoy it with them? If the season did end, they could simply have a ceremony and parade when it’s safe for the public. Team manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his concern for fan safety in previous interviews, but he has commented that any return should be left to health experts.
Other sports leagues around the world are eager to return as well. The NBA has expressed interest in returning despite concern from players and team executives.
