The sports world celebrated Kobe Bryant’s 42nd birthday on Sunday.
It feels like a lifetime ago when a helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and 7 others shocked the world and particularly the city of Los Angeles. Aside from the numerous accolades he won in his sport, Kobe is perhaps best remembered for his patented mamba mentality. which continues to inspire fans worldwide. In honor of his birthday, tributes from LA’s own Kendrick Lamar and Snoop Dogg showcased exactly how Kobe’s attitude toward his craft can be applied to anyone’s passion.
Another LA institution in the MLB’s Dodgers commemorated the date with the classic purple and gold of the Lakers. Players wore numbers 8 and 24 that the Hall-of-Famer carried during his time in the NBA.
Game recognizes game. Pro athletes know just how hard it and special it is to accomplish what all that Kobe has done in his career. The Dodgers showing a little love from across town hits right home for athletes and LA sports fans.
Despite its vast size, everyone in LA is family. Whether you’ve been here your whole life or you’re looking to start a new one, you belong here and we look after our own. Kobe’s rare ability to captivate transcended sports and became intertwined with the fabric of the city.
Rest in power Mamba, and happy birthday.
