It’s impossible to predict what Arca will do next.
The musician is constantly defying and re-defining the music she creates. Earlier this year, she dropped the perplexingly titled “@@@@@.” The offering is a 62 minute single that shifts between glitchy experimental sounds, droning ambient lulls, and everything in between. Though many of her songs lean towards pop, she refuses to be pigeon-holed in the way many tend to associate artists within the genre.
Lately the Venezuelan artist has been kicking it in quarantine, live streaming to her dedicated fans. Now, she’s gearing up for the release of her long-awaited album.
The project titled “KiCk i” will be her first album since the 2017 self-titled “Arca.” Slated for a June 26th release, the album features frequent collaborators such as Björk, Shygirl, Rosalía, and SOPHIE.
From Arca’s Spotify:
“Her latest work is KiCk i, the first in a series of upcoming works, each with its own sonic theme. For the first installment, KiCk i, Arca pursues pleasure, dignity, and dance floor liberation by refracting club music, reggaeton, and pop through her radical vision.”
So far two singles, Nonbinary and Time, have been released with aesthetically striking music videos. Give them a listen below.
