If anyone is capable of defeating a Wall Street backed candidate, it’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. This young Latina beat the odds once more…and then she beat her opponent, Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, in the Democratic primary for New York’s 14th Congressional District – a victory that the progressive congresswoman celebrated as evidence that “money couldn’t buy a movement.” That’s right, folks – there are still things out there money can’t buy: love, class, good taste in shoes, intelligence…and a grassroots movement!
The race was not even close, despite Caruso-Cabrera’s massive corporate fundraising support from big fish like Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman — a donor to President Donald Trump — and Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon. With 100% of precincts reporting, Ocasio-Cortez defeated Caruso-Cabrera 72.6% to 19.4%. Now that’s what I call an undeniable victory!
This is not the first time AOC has achieved an unprecedented victory. She beat Rep. Joe Crowley in 2018 to the astonishment of many, making it abundantly clear there is a new generation in NY politics that is sick and tired of the status quo.
So as my abuelita would say: “Prepárense, que ahí vamos. Y somos muchos”.
