2020 Tokyo Olympics Postponed, says IOC’s Dick Pound

International Olympic Committee vice-president Richard “Dick” Pound did two great things for us today. First, he announced the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be postponed to 2021, safeguarding the world from greater spread of the coronavirus. Then he gave us all a chuckle when he introduced himself to us by name, right when we needed it most. Yeah, you read that right – Dick Pound.

The IOC has come under increasing pressure to postpone the Games, which were scheduled to run between July 24 and August 9. Athletes around the world have called for a delay, with training programs disrupted due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Pound had been a vocal critic of keeping the games as scheduled – and now, he is front and center in the postponement, giving us all a chance to revel in the fact that there is a man in such a powerful position with this name.

Dick Pound. Superhero.
